Bracketing
Where do we fit?
First you must choose your division and submit your team entry. Then, after all entries are received and processed, Hoopfest will place your team in an appropriate bracket within your division, based on your team's profile (see bracketing basics below).
Choose Your Division
Standard
Most Hoopfest participants will play in this division. Our goal is to bracket teams as fairly as possible, based on the player information submitted on the entry form. There are three categories in the Standard division: Adult, High School (oldest player's next grade will be 9-12), and Youth (oldest player's next grade will be 3-8). The adult and high school entry fee for the standard division is $120.00. The youth standard division entry fee is $100.00.
Co-ed teams must have at least one player of the opposite sex on the court at all times. Any team containing both male and female players must sign up as a co-ed team.
Action Sportswear Adult Elite
This division is designed to attract the most talented teams from this area and around the country. We will accept the first sixty-four (64) entries for each of the elite division brackets: Women, Men’s 6 Foot and Under, and Men’s Over 6 Foot. Teams will be bracketed without regard to the age, height, or experience level of individual players. Male teams whose players are all 6 feet tall and shorter will automatically be placed in the Men’s 6 Foot and Under division and each of those players WILL BE MEASURED. The entry fee for the adult elite division is $160.00.
Elite High School Varsity
Think you've got the best high school players in the country? This is the division for all incoming tenth through twelfth graders who can bring their "A" game. Teams must be male or female; no co-ed teams will be allowed. Teams will not be bracketed according to height or experience. The entry fee for the high school elite division is $160.00.
Elite 9th Grade
This division is for the most promising young athletes in the nation. All players must be entering the ninth grade in the fall of 2009 to participate in this division. Teams must be male or female; no co-ed teams will be allowed. Teams will not be bracketed according to height or experience. The entry fee for the 9th grade elite division is $160.00.
Family
Want to get your dad out on the streets? This is the division for families who want to play together. Each member of the team must be related to your designated captain. If there are not enough teams to bracket appropriately, family teams will be moved to the most accurate standard division available. Registration for this division is only available with a paper entry form available at Yoke's Fresh Market and Bruchi's locations or by calling the Hoopfest office. Teams in this division will be required to fill out a Family Verification Form before their entries will be considered complete. Contact the office for the additional paperwork necessary. The entry fee for the family division is $120.00.

Bracketing Basics
Build Your Own Bracket
Do you want to know what your competition is before you even get to the streets? If so, then PLAN IT by building your own bracket! Simply sign up for your regular Hoopfest non-elite division. Then round up either 7 or 15 more registered Hoopfest teams you want to play against and who agree to play against you and we'll give you your own bracket. To create your own bracket, you must provide us with the following information by emailing us at byob@spokanehoopfest.net on or before May 31: The team name, team number, contact person, email address and phone number for either the 8 or 16 teams in your BYOB bracket. Remember to make sure all of the teams in your BYOB bracket have signed up for Hoopfest by the published deadlines. It's that simple. Play on!
Team Name
Here’s your chance to shine with the most creative name of the tournament, but remember that Hoopfest reserves the right to reject any name deemed to be inappropriate. Such team names will be replaced by the captain’s last name.
Age
Hoopfest will bracket school-aged teams based on player grades, not ages, in the 2009-2010 school year. If teams mix players of different grades, that's OK ... we'll place them appropriately. For post-high school-aged teams in the Standard division, the following ranges will be used as a guideline to bracket teams: 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50 .
Gender
This one should be pretty easy for ya. Co-ed teams must have one player of each sex on the court at all times. Any team containing both male and female players must sign up as a co-ed team. Elite division teams, both Adult and High School, may not be co-ed.
Height
Player height, especially that of the tallest player on each team, is important in determining team brackets. Hoopfest does offer 6 foot and under brackets in most cases. Unfortunately, many players choose to misrepresent their height on their entry forms. These players need to understand that if their actual height differs from what they indicated on their entry forms, they will be immediately disqualified from the tournament.
Experience
Tell us what you've been doing this past year, as well as if you've ever played at such levels as high school varsity or college ball.
Competition Level
You will choose one of two competition levels that best describes your team's style of play, as follows:
Recreational
For those players whose primary goals are to have fun and receive the newest Hoopfest Player Shirt. You enjoy basketball, but realize it's just a game.
Competitive
For players of all ages whose competetive juices are flowing. Sure, you're a good sport, but your team has active, talented players who really want to compete.
